NOVEMBER 2020 – 2021 – 2022 (2022, 45 minutes combined): ‘A series of 3 collage films assembled from a diverse pool of audio and visual pieces made throughout the November months of 2020, 2021, and 2022. This work invites the viewer-listener to enter into an abstract audiovisual world defined by both its chaotic intensity and its meditative sense of immersion.’

______________

NOVEMBER is an experimental film project consisting of 3 films (November 2020, November 2021, November 2022) which can be viewed as standalone pieces or presented together as one 45-minute film (NOVEMBER 2020 – 2021 – 2022). Each of these three films is made up of 30 video segments and 4 audio segments, all made as individual pieces throughout the month of November in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Every day of the month I came up with a new film process, recorded material and edited a 30-second piece, and every week I composed, recorded and mixed a 225-second audio piece. At the end of the month, the audio and video segments were assembled in a randomised order, so I couldn’t know which sounds and images would eventually be experienced together.

Selected for screening at the 2021 IndieCork Film Festival as part of a Special Programme of my experimental film work.

Screened as part of a double-bill with FRAMERATESat the Experimental Film Odyssey festival 2021.

It was made as part of my creative practice-based PhD research at University College Cork. My research is focused on the development of an approach to experimental filmmaking in which sounds and images are treated as equal and independent elements. I often employ chance-operations in the editing process and allow things such as shot order and durations to be randomly determined, having been inspired by the work of experimental musicians such as John Cage.
