(6) DOOR EVENT / CLOSED DOORS OPENING
(6) Door Event, or Closed Doors Opening, is a Fluxus film/installation which was originally showcased on 31 March 2019 during the art show ‘Under the Influence of Fluxus’, curated by Danny McCarthy as part of the Cork Sound Fair. The event took place in the Glucksman Gallery. The installation featured a 40-minute looping video that was played from a laptop, with the name of the installation and a Fluxus inspired ‘event score’ also on display (images below).
The video itself features 6 closed doors, the video cutting whenever one opens. Sound plays intermittently, with every other repeating cycle being silent. Throughout the piece the 6 doors are shown in different orders and for varying lengths. I created a patch using Max/MSP to randomly determine the order and lengths of the shots. I applied a different process to the recorded audio, so throughout the piece sound can heard going in and out of sync with the visuals.
